Greatgrandfather was the grandfather of neon. He invented it in a shed in a yard just like this one. He excelled at bending light into colours and shapes. He used glass globes and metal tubes to talk to stars in outer space. He taped the conversations and stored them in a blue suitcase just like this one. He called us Star Children. Come here, Star Children, he’d call to us from the shed. When he was sober, he made divinity candies. They looked like miniature clouds. |
